Eco-Engineering of Seawalls—An Opportunity for Enhanced Climate Resilience From Increased Topographic Complexity

In the context of “green” approaches to coastal engineering, term “eco-engineering” has emerged in recent years describe incorporation ecological concepts (including artificially water-filled depressions and surface textured tiles on seawalls drilled holes sea structures) into conventional design process for marine infrastructures. Limited studies have evaluated potential increase wave energy dissipation resulting from increased hydraulic roughness ecologically modified defences which could reduce overtopping consequent flood risks, while increasing biodiversity.
